About This Destination

Nairobi City Explorer

Most travelers pass through Nairobi on the way to somewhere else — Elabush will change your mind about that. Nairobi is a city of extraordinary contrasts: a skyline that wouldn't look out of place in Dubai, yet just 7km from the city centre you can watch lions stalk wildebeest in Nairobi National Park. It is home to the world-famous David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where you can hold a baby elephant, and the Giraffe Centre where Rothschild giraffes — one of the most endangered giraffe subspecies — eat pellets from your hand at eye level. Add the Karen Blixen Museum (the real-life farm of the Out of Africa author), the vibrant Maasai Market, and some of East Africa's best restaurants, and you have a city worth at least two full days of your time.

01

Day 1

Wildlife & Conservation Nairobi

Start at Nairobi National Park for a 3-hour morning game drive — the only place on earth where you can photograph lions, rhinos, and buffalo with a city skyline behind them. At 11am, head to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage for the daily feeding hour — baby elephants mud-bathing and bottle-feeding. Lunch at Tamambo Karen. Afternoon at the Giraffe Centre — hand-feed a Rothschild giraffe at eye level from the elevated platform. Sundowner at a rooftop bar in Westlands.

02

Day 2

History, Culture & Markets

Morning at the Karen Blixen Museum — the original farmhouse from the book and film Out of Africa, surrounded by coffee fields and views of the Ngong Hills. Drive through Langata to the Maasai Market (Tuesdays at the Village Market) for crafts, jewellery, and textiles. Optional Kibera community walk — a 2-hour guided tour of one of Africa's most vibrant informal settlements, focused on art, music, and community enterprise. Lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant. Afternoon transfer to your hotel or the airport.
