About This Destination

Tsavo Red Elephant Safari

Tsavo is Kenya's largest national park — one of the largest in the world — covering over 22,000 square kilometres of semi-arid wilderness between Nairobi and Mombasa. Split into Tsavo East and Tsavo West, the park is famous for its red-stained elephants whose coats absorb the district's distinctive laterite dust, the crystal-clear Mzima Springs, the dramatic Shetani lava flow, and the remote, untamed character that distinguishes it from Kenya's better-known parks. For travellers who want to escape the crowds and experience a truly wild Africa, Tsavo delivers an experience unlike anywhere else on the continent.

Sample Itinerary

01

Day 1

02

Day 2

Mzima Springs & Shetani Lava

Morning guided walk at Mzima Springs, where crystal-clear water wells up from underground lava. Hippos and crocodiles are visible through an underwater viewing chamber. Drive through the dramatic Shetani lava fields in the afternoon.

03

Day 3

Tsavo East — Lugard Falls

Cross into Tsavo East via Mtito Andei. Visit the dramatic Lugard Falls on the Galana River, where the water is forced through a narrow gorge. Continue to Aruba Dam for massive concentrations of wildlife around the water.

Day 4

A final dawn game drive at your chosen area before a full breakfast. Depart via Mtito Andei gate and arrive back in Nairobi by 3 pm.
